Mark Abbott

Dr. Mark Abbott is an ex-officio member and serves as a vice-chair on the commission. He is Dean and Professor in the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. He received his B.S. in Conservation of Natural Resources from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1974 and his Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California, Davis, in 1978. He has been at OSU since 1988 and has been Dean of the College since 2001. Dr. Abbott was appointed in 2005 by Governor Kulongoski as cochair of the Climate Change Integration Group which has examined mitigation and adaptation strategies in response to climate change for both Oregon government and business. Dr. Abbott also was appointed in 2006 by the President to a six-year term on the National Science Board, which oversees the National Science Foundation and provides scientific advice to the White House and to Congress.
